Adult ADHD
You don’t have to keep trying to be someone you’re not
When you have a brain that operates differently, it can mean you feel physically and emotionally exhausted, judge yourself harshly for not doing things the “right” way, feel disconnected from others, or wonder why things feel so hard for you when others seem to be managing just fine. Simple tasks can feel overwhelming and that sometimes includes finding a good-fit therapist who understands.
At Green Fig, we specialize in ADHD-affirming therapy for people who want to be supported without being pathologized. With us, you can “come as you are.” We’re here to help you understand how ADHD may be showing up for you in insidious ways, and to help you navigate ADHD challenges so you can learn to dance with it versus trip over your feet.
Part of this means learning practical hacks to assist your brain in managing daily tasks and achieve long term goals. It also includes deeper work around understanding the impact on your self-esteem and the sometimes difficult feelings that come with it.
With diagnosis & understanding, it’s possible to build your self-confidence & thrive.
Are you wondering if you have ADHD?
If you feel like your mind is like a motor or you can never sit down — or, conversely, feel numb, overstimulated and exhausted — you’re not alone. ADHD makes daily tasks feel more challenging and emotions feel more intense.
You may already have an ADHD diagnosis. Or you might be wondering if you have undiagnosed ADHD.
When you have ADHD, you may:
feel tired, overwhelmed, or emotionally drained
procrastinate and avoid important but low-interest tasks
feel disorganized, lose or misplace things regularly, or have bits of paper everywhere
miss deadlines and have trouble setting realistic ones
often find yourself late for appointments, work, or meeting friends
start strong and lose interest — leading to many unfinished projects
feel intensely — frustration, anger, worry, disappointment
have been called lazy, intense, rebellious, flakey, or dumb
overcompensate by working extra hard to show up like everyone else
Many adults with ADHD are diagnosed later in life. If you perform well in some areas while struggling with consistency, follow-through, and daily organization — it could be ADHD.

ADHD is not a character flaw — it’s a neurodevelopmental condition you were born with. You are not a failure, but much of the world was not built for brains like yours.
With diagnosis & understanding, it’s possible to build your self-confidence & thrive.

FAQs
-
ADHD assessment is more than a checklist. It involves understanding how your brain works, how your symptoms show up in daily life, and how long they’ve been present.
As part of the process, we use an evidence based clinical assessment tool that’s directly aligned with current research on ADHD types and symptoms, alongside a detailed conversation about your history, strengths, and challenges.
The goal isn’t to label you — it’s to develop a clearer understanding of your experience and identify what will actually help.
-
ADHD shows up in insidious ways and often unknowingly shapes how we feel about ourselves in ways that hold us back. It can erode one’s self-esteem, cause shame spirals and result in harsh judgement both from oneself and from others.
Therapy can provide a gentle space to explore this, to grieve aspects of your life that have felt challenging, and to process intense feelings.
-
This is a really important question — and honestly, a lot of adults with ADHD benefit from both at different points.
The difference comes down to what’s getting in the way right now: skills vs. emotional/relational patterns.
Coaching is focused on practical interventions and accountability. It provides help building systems or new habits, tracking goals, and providing structure.
Therapy goes deeper into the emotional, psychological and relational layers of ADHD. It can be helpful if you feel shame, burnout or chronic self-criticism; if there’s anxiety and depression or trauma alongside ADHD; or if you often get stuck in avoidance or overwhelm. It helps by focusing on emotional regulation, nervous system overload, self-esteem, and unhelpful patterns.
-
Most people begin to notice small shifts within the first few weeks of ADHD therapy or coaching — like feeling more understood, gaining clarity about what’s been getting in the way, or finding a few strategies that start to help.
Deeper, more lasting change — like reduced overwhelm, less self-criticism, and more consistent self-trust — tends to develop over time.
Coaching can sometimes lead to quicker, visible changes in habits and routines, while therapy focuses on the underlying emotional and psychological patterns that make those changes sustainable. You don’t have to wait months to feel some relief, but meaningful, lasting change is something that unfolds gradually.
-
Dialectical Behavior Therapy can be a surprisingly powerful tool for ADHD—especially for adults who struggle less with knowing what to do and more with actually managing emotions, overwhelm, and follow-through.
While DBT was originally developed for intense emotional dysregulation, many of its core skills map directly onto the real-life difficulties adults with ADHD face. ADHD brains feel things more intensely, struggle more with impulsivity, and have a hard time managing distress which often leads to avoidance.
DBT can help with task initiation and follow through, starting and sticking with boring tasks, consistency, and relational stability.
If you understand how your own unique ADHD brain wiring works, you can get the challenges out of your way and do things in your unique, successful, fulfilling way.
